As many of you may know, Earth Day (April 22) is approaching quickly. I wanted to take a minute to see how you, your family and friends or your office are commemorating this day.
Earth Day, according to EarthDay.org, “marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970”. Since its inception, we have seen many great strides toward the betterment of our planet. EarthDay.org also noted that on the first Earth Day, “20 million Americans took to the streets, parks, and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment in massive coast-to-coast rallies”. Before then, not many people put thought into how every day acts can have great effects on the world we live in. Now there are whole “green” communities, eco-friendly products and even housing built with the environment in mind. Many enthusiasts devote everything they are to sustaining Planet Earth. Although it may seem daunting to begin a more eco-friendly way of living, there are many ways in which our choices can easily be “green” without having to go out of our way. The ideas are endless and can be found anywhere on the internet. This article on MSN even suggests by simply using tap water at restaurants or renting movies instead of buying them, you are going in the right direction. There are more obvious ways like buying organic food and of course, Sprig Toys:) Just because you are doing something for a good cause does not mean it should have to be boring! Otherwise we have no hope in getting kids excited about joining in.
So how will you recognize Earth Day 2011? There are many ideas being circulated from biking/walking to work (if you are within a distance to do so), work with a local park to help clean it up or create an organic and healthy all veggie meal for dinner. Getting your kids involved now will help them understand the importance of improving the condition of our planet. Please share your plans and photos with us here, on Facebook or Twitter – we would love to see them!
